Danielle, a regular comment contributor to Almost Vegan, left another tip on my Taco Bell post. She asked if I had a Baja Fresh near me.
She explained how Baja Fresh was incredibly vegan friendly and also had a very clean, nice environment. Judging from their website, I think she is right, unfortunately there’s not one within 100 miles of me.
You know, I am so happy people come to my blog and are nice enough to leave comments, but the downside is I hear about living real close to Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods Market, and now this Baja Fresh place. (sigh) I actually walk my dog every day on a sandy-dirt road surrounded my woods and a couple of small lakes. I “shop” at farms where they just picked the fruits and/or vegetables I am buying… but God I miss big cities. I really do.
Isn’t it funny how the grass always seems greener on the other side? That sandy dirt road and those fresh-picked vegetables sound pretty enticing to me. I’ll think about them when I’m sitting in bottlenecked traffic later today…
In other news, I’m going to California this week and there’s a raw food restaurant I’m going to try. I’ll let you know how it is!
Yeah, please do let me know how it is. You got the gist of that post so well. I was thinking just that when I wrote it. If I was back in the city I would be missing this place.
I miss being in a big city too. I moved from San Diego to Johnstown,PA. There is nothing here. I used to go out to restaurants, farmer’s markets(The one in Johnstown is basically one truck, what a joke!), shop at a co-op or Whole Foods, and generally have everything I needed close by. If I was to leave here, I wouldn’t miss it. And, I used to like going to Baja Fresh.
Oh, and the closest Baja Fresh is almost 3hrs away!
I hear you. It is so different to be out so far away from everything. My perspective is so changed, I was in awe of a supermarket when I went for a visit to Seattle last year. At least I am no longer spoiled and jaded!
I just got off the phone with Baja Fresh. Their tortillas are not vegan, since they contain whey. You can get a “bare burrito” in a bowl instead of a tortilla. Their beans, rice, and guacamole are vegan. But make sure to tell them not to sprinkle cheese on the beans, which they sometimes do.
